International Studies
St Edmund’s are proud to have been re-accredited with the International School Award (July 2021). This is largely due to our international links and global curriculum work that goes on throughout the school year,
We feel that an international curriculum is a very important part of a child’s education. It helps to make our children aware of the different cultures in the world and develops an atmosphere of understanding and respect towards those with a different heritage to our own.
During the year we have many fun activities relating to our international studies. The children’s favourite is ‘International Week’. During this week the children experience a taste of the many wonderful cultures we have in our school and across the world through cross-curricular lessons, tasks and activities. Many of our parents help to support this week by leading many of the sessions.
Children of every age learn French at St Edmund’s. To improve these skills, we have developed a partnership with Ecole des Arcades Fleuries in Chelles, France. Children in Year 6 take part in a pen-pal project with their counterparts and we have even met them over skype!
We have developed links with Holy Trinity School, Washington DC. Pupils in Year 5 develop their knowledge and understanding of America through their pen-pal project as well as Year 1 pupils writing and receiving postcards from Boudonville Elementary School, Nancy, France.
We can definitely say that St Edmund’s in an international school as we strive to not only develop international links but international friends!
